$50,000? According to my math, even if they paid every writer $500, they would still have a book with 100 contributors. Not even the Norton anthologies have that many stories in them.

If it's a worthwhile project, then Mark Reiter and his partner should be willing to profit only from the royalties. The advance should go to the authors.

I wish I could find someone to give me a $50,000 advance. I'd produce ten kickass anthologies for them.

This is common in design and illustration too. There are projects where I'm happy to donate time, but it gets depressing when commercial clients think your skills aren't worth anything.

What gets missed is that the book apparently was published in May of last year (would have thought they'd have aimed for a March publication date).
