Jason,

Another thing to realize that in the LOCUS poll all the "First Novel" recommendations can be placed in there respective categories for "Best SF Novel" or "Best Fantasy Novel" or "Best Young Adult Novel" as well as "Best First Novel". I believe that hasn't been clearly spelled out in some time, but fear not - "The WindupGirl" may be the first to win both "Best SF novel" as well as "Best First Novel"
In 1984 with William Gibson's first novel(NEUROMANCER) and Kim Stanley Robinson's first novel(THE WILD SHORE)out the same year - Robinson won for first novel but came in 16th for SF novel while Gibson came in second for the first novel and 8th in the Best SF novel category - not to mention it was the first novels of Howard Waldrop, Lucious Shepard, Lewis Shiner and Gwyneth Jones the same year! That was a hard year to vote. (For complete info - Niven's "THE INTEGRAL TREES" received best SF novel - it just goes to show you that polls can be so wrong.)
By the way - really pleased about your Nebula nomination. I hope the Hugos are as far seeing in their choices.

Thanks so much for your very kind words about "I Needs Must Part, the Policeman Said."

For what it's worth, under the old system one could nominate as many stories/novels as one wanted to.

and

Christopher Barzak was nominated for Best Novelette in 2007. In fact that gets mentioned in the story I just had nominated this year.

Rick: I didn't know Barzak was your godson Chris referred to in the story! Probably should have figured that out from the clues you gave in the story.

Bob: Thanks for the info. Very good to know.
