Recently a well-know SF/F author commented that there weren't many people of color who were actually fans of SF/F. My response: WFT? An even better response is FOC_U, a new Livejournal group dedicated to showing how many people of color exist at all levels of the SF/F/Horror genres--as fans, as writers, as artists--and how these people are an integral part of the genres.
All of this hits me on a very personal level. Yes, I'm a white guy from Alabama, but I'm married to a black woman and have two biracial children--all of whom read SF/F! So go check out FOC_U, learn a few things, and raise the awareness of everyone.
